IPL Skin rejuvenation is a non-invasive skin procedure with intense pulse light IPL. IPL is not a laser, it uses a broad wavelength light that is pulsed onto the skin and can treat multiple conditions simultaneously; including broken veins and capillaries, redness of the skin, age spots, mottled pigmentation, benign brown pigment and freckles.

Treatment can take place over the entire body with face, neck and décolletage being the most popular areas. We see hands and shoulders being treated also.

The heat energy stimulates new collagen production beneath the skin surface which remodels the collagen, firms the skin and shrinks the pores. After a series of photorejuvenation treatments at intervals spaced 4 weeks apart; a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles can also be seen. The skin appears more luminous, brighter and smoother. Improvements can be seen 10 days following the first treatment and enhanced results can be seen with each subsequent treatment.

What is treated with IPL device

1. Redness on the face (rosasea) and chest - Redness can be treated successfully with IPL several treatments are necessary. An appropriate skin care program is also recommended for optimum results.
2. Sun damage on hands and arms, treating brown spots on the hand even after one treatment.
3. IPL for overall uneven skin. Hyperpigmented lesions (brown spots) are successfully treated with the quantum which gives the skin an overall evenness. It is harder to remove a pigment that is very deep and has beenpresent for over a long time; however, significant and satisfactory reduction can usually be achieved in most patients.
4. Fine lines, wrinkles and the reduction of enlarged pores.

After treatment

Most clients experience a darkening of pigment for a period of 5-7 days. This can easily be covered with makeup and soon clears.

In some rare cases bruising and swelling can occur. This is only temporary, not harmful to the skin and usually only lasts for a few days. Although rarely, blistering can occur and should be treated as you would a normal blister, keeping the area covered and free from infection.

Dos

• Do contact The Clinic if there is any indication of blisters or infection immediately
• Do use zinc based spf30+ sunblock
• Do apply moisturiser or special cream recommended by aesthetician if crusting occurs to keep the area moist. DO NOT PICK the crusting, they should be allowed to fall off naturally.
• Ideal results are obtained by undergoing a series of treatments. This may be between 2 -6 treatments, depending upon the condition to be treated. After the initial series of photorejuvenation treatments most of the improvements are permanent however in order to maintain the results some future maintenance may be required and this varies from person to person

Don'ts

• It is important to protect your skin from direct sun exposure over the series of your treatments and it is highly recommended to use a spf30+ sunblock. Solariums and sun bathing are to be avoided
• Do not shave / wax the area for a few days after treatment as the skin may be sensitive
• Do not shave / wax at all if crusting is present
• Avoid using your active skincare products for 7 days post IPL treatment
• Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours following treatment
• Avoid swimming pool for 24 hours after treatment
